honey harvesting

details from my adventure in honey harvesting and bee wrangling with golden harvest beekeeping in redwood city california.
images: examining the hive, firing up the smoker, subduing the hive, returning the comb, bees going about their business, fresh honey.

  1. I used to love going on class trips to the Billy Bee Honey factory as a kid. Learning all about the bees, the hives, how one bee will only make a teaspoon of honey in their life. It was always so incredible. They're such amazing little creatures. I've always been rather enchanted with bees, bumble bees especially! :)

    1. This was such a neat experience, I envy your early introduction to these little creatures. It took me 26 years!

  3. Wow, these photos are beautiful! (even the bee photo... though I have a serious fear of them after walking into a ground nest with my dog last year)

    1. Thanks! But, that sounds terrible, I'm glad these bees were not angry. The were incredibly docile once we blew some smoke their way. I wonder who figured that one out? Amazing.
